Make An Elegant Entrance - The 2018 Genesis G80 3.8 Sedan

When you drive a new Genesis, you get to reap the benefits of a properly-outfitted luxury sedan at a fraction of the cost of the competitors. Among these is the 2018 G80 3.8, a model that may be familiar to some when it wore the name now applied to its' entire brand. But beyond pricing, excellent looks, and features, you'll find a sedan that's comfortable, sporting, and evocative in its own right.

Exterior
Even before its name launched a luxury marque, the G80 has always been a good-looking sedan. Clean, athletic lines give the body a sense of dynamism, tied together with an imposing front end with LED daytime running lights. A gentle taper to the roof adds to the G80's elegant look, which ends in an upward flourish on the rear deck-as if to shrug off the wind. Get ready for envious looks at the curb, and in parking lots.

Interior
There's a similar theme of cleanliness in the cabin, which is also one of the class's most spacious. Leather lined and quiet at speed, the G80's interior is a comfortable place to spend time. Climate controlled seats, and steering wheel, standard infotainment, and easy-to-reach controls are all perks. Move up to the highest equipment groups, and more premium leathers and inlays on the doors, dash, and center console add on to the premium aura.

Performance
The G80 3.8 is called such for its engine-a 3.8-liter naturally-aspirated V6, and it's a good one. A refined eight-speed automatic handles shifting duties, and can direct its 311 horsepower and 293 lb-ft of torque to either the rear, or all four wheels. On the whole, the driving experience is surprisingly comfortable with ample power and smooth acceleration. Power is certainly plentiful, and if you're familiar with the potency of sport sedans, you'll appreciate the 3.8's low-end grunt.

Make Your G80 Authentically "You"

The G80 3.8 is one of three available engines, the other two being the 3.3 and 5.0. In this case, you can choose between rear wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and between three different equipment "packages." For the 3.8, these include the standard option, Premium, or Ultimate-with numerous additional accessories on the menu.

3.8 Standard
For a "base" trim, a Standard G80 comes loaded with features. Safety equipment such as Driver Attention Alert, Blind Spot/Rear Cross Traffic Detection, Lane Keep Assist, and Smart Cruise Control are all compulsory, as are conveniences like heated, power folding side mirrors, high beam assist, and an 8-inch infotainment system with smart phone connectivity. All seating surfaces are leather, and heated, and Genesis has also bundled unique warranties and care packages into the base trim.

3.8 Premium
The Premium package bundles all the features on the base model, but upgrades some, while adding others. Among the additions is a power tilt-and-slide panoramic sunroof, Lexicon 14-speaker premium audio, and front and rear parking sensors. Add-ons include ventilated seats, and an upgraded 7-inch color multi-information display.

3.8 Ultimate
The fully-loaded Ultimate package includes all the options on the former two equipment groups, while upgrading the standard xenon headlights to LED units, and the leather seating to more premium hides. The infotainment screen grows to 9.2 inches, the Lexicon sound system grows to 17 speakers, and the steering wheel gets a heating function. A multi-view camera system gets added to the safety roster, as does a futuristic-looking heads-up display.
